Trying to understand senior living and care options can feel overwhelming. Terms like independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation services are often used interchangeably, and it is not always clear what they really mean.
Many families begin exploring these options after something changes. It might be a fall, a hospital stay, or the realization that daily routines are becoming more difficult. Others want to plan ahead and understand what support may be available in the future.
At Grand Traverse Pavilions, we provide a continuum of care that supports individuals at different stages of need. Because these services are available within one community, individuals can receive the right level of support while remaining in familiar surroundings.
This guide is designed to help you better understand each option so you can make informed decisions with confidence.
Independent Living
A good fit for individuals who want to simplify daily life while maintaining independence. Independent living offers a maintenance-free lifestyle with opportunities for connection and community.
Assisted Living
Designed for individuals who are mostly independent but benefit from help with daily routines like meals, medication, or mobility. Assisted living provides support while encouraging independence.
Skilled Nursing
Provides 24-hour medical care and rehabilitation for individuals recovering from illness or managing more complex health needs.
Therapy and Wellness Services
Supports strength, mobility, communication, and overall wellbeing through physical, occupational, speech, and specialized therapies.
Choosing the right level of care is not always a clear decision, and it does not have to be made alone.
If you are starting to explore options or are unsure what level of support may be helpful, we are here to talk it through with you.
