The Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation is excited to announce the details of their third annual fundraiser tied directly to the Pavilions’ mission “to provide accessible, trusted and compassionate care that enhances quality of life for aging adults.” As an advocate for the aging adults in our community the Pavilions is helping to bring awareness to the implications of the silver tsunami of 10,000 baby-boomers turning 65 every day in our country. In Grand Traverse County the number of 65+ households had doubled in the past ten years, with nearly one in four County residents now over the age of 65. In our neighboring Leelanau County, one of the fastest aging in the state, one out of every three residents are already over the age of 65.
To help bring awareness to the increasing importance of “Successful Aging” the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation will host The Grand Event: LIFE based on the Hasbro’s The Game of LIFE®, which most baby-boomers remember fondly from their childhood. This ticketed event will allow participants to play the game with a chance to win thousands of dollars' worth of prizes. Funds raised from the event support the Foundation’s Benevolent Endowment to support funding for the anticipated increased need for medical care for the aging adult population in our region.
Deborah Allen, Chief Development and Community Engagement Officer for Grand Traverse Pavilions shared “The Game of LIFE fits so well into our mission of being an advocate for the importance of successful aging. Players strive to navigate through the game of “LIFE” with the end goal to achieve a happy and healthy retirement.” Funds raised from the event will be utilized to support Grand Traverse Pavilions Benevolent Fund, an endowment to support the ongoing charity care and unreimbursed medical care for our residents. In 2019, the Grand Traverse Pavilions provided more than $4.4 million of charity care for our aging community.
Although Senior Citizens Day 2020 is Friday, August 21, 2020, the Grand Event is held each year the Saturday prior to Grandparents Day, one of the only National Holiday established to honor our elders. This year’s event will be held at the Park Place Hotel & Convention Center on Saturday, September 12, 2020 starting at 6:30 pm.
“The Grand Event: LIFE is a unique opportunity to engage the community and area businesses while supporting and honoring our elders,” says Allen. “We expect it to be a fun evening for all, with great opportunities for some amazing prizes while supporting health services for our area elders”. Adults are encouraged to form teams and play LIFE to support a worthy social charity whose mission is to care for the needs of our region’s aging adults.
Individual tickets to participate in the Grand Event start at $100. Sponsorships levels start at $250 and up. Sponsors of the event garner great exposure while demonstrating their support for our regions families and aging residents.
